Sarika Stone Talve-Goodman, LCSW, MS in Narrative Medicine, PhD in Literature (she/her)

Psychotherapist at Empowered Therapy, LLC

I am a clinical social worker and psychotherapist focusing on issues among adolescents, women, parents, gender diverse people, and LGBTQIA+ individuals across racial and ethnic backgrounds. I practice a whole-person, individualized, integrative, and systems-based approach to mental health and wellness, focusing on issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, abuse, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and trauma.

I support and guide individuals of all ages who are struggling with emotional suffering and pain through a collaborative, equal, trauma-informed, and psychodynamic process. I believe that each person has within them the strengths, resources, and capacities for their own healing and recovery. In working with teens and/or parents, I will often incorporate education about the nervous system and brain to support positive coping skills and tools for the whole family. All of the modalities and techniques that I draw from help cultivate self-compassion, confidence, emotional awareness, healthy relationships to self and others, and internal resiliency.

My psychotherapy practice is guided by somatic (body-focused) healing methods—working with trauma in the nervous system combined with integrative, whole body, and mindfulness techniques. My approach is also grounded in feminist, queer, and anti-racist therapeutic modalities. I received my MSW from Washington University’s George Warren Brown School of Social Work in 2020 and am currently undergoing clinical supervision in integrative psychotherapy with Kelly Caul, MSW, LCSW.

I am also currently training in Somatic Experiencing, and completed the first of three years of this specialized trauma training in 2021. I received a Ph.D. in Literature from University of California, San Diego in 2016. After training and working as an academic—with a specialization in trauma theory and critical studies of race, gender, and sexuality— I turned to clinical social work to incorporate a direct healing practice into my teaching and scholarship.

Out-of-Network Provider Reimbursement

To ensure complete focus on clinical care, this practice does not directly bill through any insurance plan. This allows you as the client to work with me to determine the duration of your therapy, versus the insurance company dictating how many sessions you should receive. This also helps to protect your private and confidential information.

However, insurance-ready statements will be provided that review the services you have accessed. These statements can be used for out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance plan.

You can contact your insurance company and ask if they cover an out-of-network Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Click HERE for helpful questions to ask your insurance company. If this is something that you are interested in I recommend that you call them before I first appointment to gather all of the information you need. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be a support in this process.

No Surprise Act/Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges for a service.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019
